Passionfruit

Picture a winter’s night in rainy Athlone. You make your way to 9 Northgate St.
And you step inside the cosy atmosphere of the Passionfruit Theatre. You purchase your ticket and are shown to your seat by a smiling young person who takes your wet coat, and is glad you could make it. Then the old building seems to hold its breath as the stage lights go up, and for the next two hours you’re transported to another world. The old building lives again, and so do you…That’s what we’re offering!

As we're nearing the end of the 2008/2009 season, it's maybe a good time to take stock of the past year.
It's been an eventful year for Passionfruit, with a lot of upheaval particularly recently. However, with the support of the community we have managed to bring several drama productions and almost sixty musical acts to the town.
We'd like to thank all members of Passionfruit, past and present, and the members of the community who have generously donated both time and money to help bring you the following events:

Art Competition Winners Print E-mail
There was a great response to the Passionfruit Theatre Art Competition that was held this month for national school children. Over 10 schools around Athlone took part and the theme of the competition was Irish Traditional Music.
Prize-giving took place on Monday evening in Reeves Art Studio, Church Street. Levina Reeves complimented the winners on their fabulous pictures and commented on the high standard of all entries.
1st place went to Mateusz Turowski, Dean Kelly N.S. Mateusz was presented with over €500 worth of Irish musical instruments by Fiona Ducke of Passionfruit Theatre. He told Fiona that he is already learning the guitar in school. Levina Reeves also presented Mateusz with an art set. He attended the prize-giving with proud teachers Oisin Courcy & Shane O'Gorman.
Runners-up in the competition were, Matija Milenovic (Cornamaddy N.S.), Hannah Ni Chathasaigh (Scoil na gCeithre Maistri) and Emma Kenny (St Ciaran's N.S.). Each pupil was given a tin-whistle, a book of tunes and a CD.
